The
beautiful Shuswap is situated in south-central British Columbia, midway
between Vancouver BC and Calgary, Alberta. The Shuswap Lake system offers
more than 1,000 kilometres of shoreline to explore, with spectacular
scenery and a pristine environment.
At the turn of the century, the Blind Bay "Trappers' landing served as a
transfer point for furs , lumber and other bounties of the area. Today the
Trans Canada Highway serves a fast growing vacation, retirement, arts and
business community.
We have a
moderate four-season climate with plenty to do in each season.
Summer
offers recreational activities to everyone. An eighteen hole championship
course awaits the golf enthusiast. There are, as well, several nine hole
courses. There are plenty of trails for hiking with breathtaking scenery.
Water sports are, of course, the big summer attraction. There is swimming,
fishing, water skiing, boating, and white water rafting on the Adams
River. Of course you can do nothing at all, the Shuswap was made for
relaxing. Community parks provide ball diamonds, playing fields, and
children's playgrounds. The summer nights are cool and the lake views are
always awesome.
For the winter enthusiasts, the area offers mild winters with good snow
pack at the higher elevations. You can enjoy winter sports such as:
snowmobiling, skiing, great ice-fishing sleigh rides, and nearby, cross
country skiing. There are numerous businesses in the area which cater to
the winter sports enthusiast. Contact our chamber for information.
With our relaxed lifestyle and great variety of recreational choices no
wonder we're the place everyone wants to live.
